ART-icle 1: Think You Can’t Draw? Think Again.
Tired of doom scrolling? Want to find calm in just a couple of minutes? Try this: just draw to music, following your impulses in response. The piece I chose is from the movie, Amelie. Click the image to watch the video.
This became a drawing meditation for me. It’s like dancing on paper. Two hours later, I was in a very peaceful place, although my neck is still all jacked up.
Below is the final drawing. Feel free to download this image, print it out, and color it in. You can also email me at liz@creativeincites.com at if you want me to send you a jpg or pdf of this coloring sheet.
Also, send me pic of your art experiments and let me know if it’s OK to put it in the next Wildly Improbable Gazette. What music did you choose? How did it make you feel?
For more coloring and mark-making goodness, order Start Where You Art, my hand-drawn mandala coloring book, story book, and creativity workbook all in one.
WANT TO DRAW WITH ME FOR FREE?
If ever there was a time for creativity and community, it’s now. That’s why I hope to see you at our First Friday Art Instead Happy Hour. It’s a happier hour with no noisy bar, no bar tab, and no regrets. 5:30 EST on zoom. Sign up to get the link! Please note there will be no Art Instead zoom in September, as I will be out of the country.
Start your weekend off right with this free gathering, geared for people who want to practice creativity in connection with others. All you need is a piece of paper and something to make marks with. Some people like to have markers, colored pencils, or crayons to color with. Absolutely no talent is required. Laughter, joy, and relaxation are guaranteed.
Despite what our cultural programming may tell us, art making is for everyone, not just for children or a special talented few. It can be used as a meditation, a self-care modality, a team-building activity, and a health care practice – if only we can get out of our own way and our limiting stories about whom art is for.
Whether you are a practicing artist, a recovering perfectionist, a closet creative, or the victim of an art bully, let’s heal some art scars with delight and curiosity.

It all begins with an idea.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
